1Zpresso JX-Pro Espresso Grind Settings
Curated espresso settings from 40–83 clicks from zero point with roast-specific zones, sensitivity data, and calibration guidance.
Grind Settings by Roast Level
Recommended clicks from zero point ranges for each roast level on the JX-Pro.
| Roast | Low | Center | High | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | 40 | 52 | 56 | C |
| Medium-Light | 48 | 56 | 60 | D |
| Medium | 52 | 60 | 68 | B |
| Medium-Dark | 64 | 68 | 76 | D |
| Dark | 72 | 76 | 83 | C |
Values in clicks from zero point. Center is the best starting point; low/high represent the typical range across different beans.
Sensitivity Zones
How much shot time changes per 12.5 clicks from zero point step in different zones of the dial.
Fine End
BMost sensitive zone — small changes have big impact on shot time
Mid Range
BSweet spot for most espresso — moderate sensitivity
Coarse End
CLeast sensitive — larger adjustments needed to affect extraction
Tips & Quirks
Things to know about dialing in the JX-Pro.
Settings use a three-part rotation.number.tick notation (e.g. 1.3.2 = 1 rotation + number 3 + tick 2 = 54 clicks). Each rotation has 10 numbers (0-9) and each number has 4 ticks (0-3), giving 40 clicks per rotation. Users must count rotations from their zero point to know the absolute position.
The factory zero point may not align with the 0 mark on the dial. Each unit may ship with a different offset. Calibration to align 0 is possible following the user manual instructions, but is not required as long as you know your own zero point.
Do not turn the crank handle within the first few clicks from the zero point. The burrs make contact in this range and grinding here can damage the burrs.
The angle at which you hold the grinder while grinding can affect the effective grind size. One user reported needing 1.9.2 at a 45-degree angle but 2.1.2 when held upright for the same dark roast espresso result. Hold the grinder consistently for repeatable results.
Hand grinder with 35g hopper capacity — naturally single-dose. Minimal grind retention. Grind time for a full espresso dose (18-20g) is approximately 45 seconds at espresso fineness.
1Zpresso's official recommended espresso range (numbers 12-16) tends to be on the finer side and may choke some espresso machines. Start at 1.8.0 (72 clicks) and adjust from there rather than starting at the official minimum.
Light roasted Ethiopian beans tend to produce more fines, which may require grinding a few steps coarser than you would for other light roasts to avoid choking the machine.

Variance
Zero Point
Turn the adjustment dial clockwise until resistance is felt (burrs touching). The zero point is where the handle starts to spin with resistance, NOT necessarily the tightest position. The number on the dial may not read 0 at the zero point — this is normal. You can recalibrate to align the 0 mark by following the instructions in the user manual. Do NOT turn the handle within the first few clicks from zero to avoid burr damage.
Stepped clicks mechanism provides very consistent repeatability. Grinds remaining in the burr chamber can shift the effective zero point slightly. Re-check zero periodically. The strength of tightening the knurled thumb nut can cause the starting point to be 2 or more clicks off. Always ensure the hopper and catch cup are properly seated.
