Values in dial marks from zero point. Center is the best starting point; low/high represent the typical range across different beans.

Sensitivity Zones

How much shot time changes per adjustment step in different zones of the dial.

Fine End

B
7.5s
per step (0.51.5 dial marks from zero point)

Most sensitive zone — small changes have big impact on shot time

Mid Range

B
4.5s
per step (1.52.5 dial marks from zero point)

Sweet spot for most espresso — moderate sensitivity

Coarse End

C
2.5s
per step (2.53.5 dial marks from zero point)

Least sensitive — larger adjustments needed to affect extraction

Tips & Quirks

Things to know about dialing in the Mignon Notte.

ux

Dial numbers repeat every rotation (0-5 marks, then back to 0). Users must count rotations from zero point to know their absolute position. The stock dial is small with hard-to-read numbers; aftermarket dials (e.g., ARO dial, FusedLine 3D-printed dial) are popular upgrades.

warning

Only adjust to a finer setting while the motor is running. Adjusting finer with the motor off can clamp down on a bean fragment and jam or stall the motor.

ux

Factory calibration is inconsistent — the dial faceplate is installed at a random position. Every unit's '0' mark corresponds to a different grind size. Users must establish their own zero/chirp point.

recommendation

Adjustment mechanism has backlash. Always approach your target setting by rotating clockwise (finer direction) to ensure repeatable positioning.

recommendation

Grind retention of approximately 2g. Purge 2-3g of beans after changing grind setting before pulling your next shot. A bellows mod is a popular aftermarket fix to reduce retention.

ux

No sound insulation — unlike the Silenzio and higher Mignon models, the Notte lacks internal sound dampening, making it noticeably louder during operation.

ux

Manual dosing only — the grinder activates when a portafilter is pressed against the fork switch underneath the chute. There is no timer, no touchscreen, and no programmable dosing.

recommendation

Dial is very sensitive — changes for different beans are just a small fraction of one number mark. Make very small adjustments when dialing in.

Calibration

Unit-to-unit variance and zero-point info for the Mignon Notte.

Medium variance — calibration recommended

Zero Point

Burr chirp method: Remove hopper, run motor, rotate dial clockwise until burrs chirp (contact sound), then back off slightly. Zero point is NOT at the '0' mark — factory installs dial marker in arbitrary position. Each unit's zero is different.

Dial has backlash — always approach desired setting by rotating clockwise (toward finer). The manual on/off switch and portafilter-activated dosing can shift the grinder body slightly during use; re-check zero periodically.
